Driver crashes into ambulance, arrested for DUI

The driver of a pickup truck that crashed late Thursday into a Kootenai County EMS ambulance carrying a patient was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to a tweet by Idaho State Police District 1.

ISP reported that the crash occurred around 9:53 p.m. at milepost 425 on U.S. 95, about 5 miles south of Coeur d’Alene. Matthew T. Johnson, 24, who ISP reported is from Park City, Utah, was reportedly traveling south on U.S. 95 when his 2017 Ford Raptor pickup collided with a Kootenai County EMS ambulance traveling north.

The driver of the ambulance, Tyler D. Anttila, 29, of Coeur d’Alene, along with all occupants of the ambulance, were treated and released at Kootenai Health, according to ISP.

A Matthew T. Johnson, 24, of Worley, was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on suspicion of DUI, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office’s daily jail booking log.

“Thankfully no one was seriously injured in the crash,” said the ISP tweet.
