Donald Eugene Oldham, Sr., 88

Donald Eugene Oldham, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2019, at a local adult care facility.

Born in Wichita, Kan., in 1930, Don’s family moved to Merced, Calif., where he graduated from high school before joining the U.S. Navy, where he spent the next 23 years. His naval career culminated with a rank of Master Chief and being named Navy Man of the Pacific.

Don met the love of his life, Mary Ann Engle (Mahanoy City, Pa.) while stationed in Philadelphia, Pa., and they married in 1957. After 56 years of marriage, Mary Ann passed away in 2013.

The Navy gave Don a taste for travel, and he and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling the world, with highlights being trips to Spain and China.

Survivors include daughter Donna Kranik (Claude), son Donald Oldham, Jr. (Ethann), son Doug Oldham (Dee), daughter Diana Barley (Mark), grandchildren Clayton and Claire Kranik, as well as Don’s sister Dorothy Shockley

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, with the rosary at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Longview, Wash.
