GPA above 3.0 for

10th straight semester

MOSCOW — University of Idaho student-athletes achieved a department grade-point average of 3.09 during the fall 2018 semester, the 10th consecutive semester with a 3.0 department GPA or better.

Twelve of Idaho’s 16 teams posted at least a 3.0 GPA with a pair of Vandal programs setting all-time records.

The Vandal women’s tennis team, which will be vying for a sixth consecutive conference title in the spring, posted a 3.81 team GPA for the fall. It is the second-highest semester GPA in program history and third-highest semester GPA by any team in department history (GPA records date back to 2000).

Women’s swimming and diving posted a 3.66 GPA, the best single-semester mark since the program was reinstated in 2004. That was accomplished thanks to 27 student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher, including nine with a perfect 4.0.

Women’s soccer secured its highest semester team GPA on record with a 3.65. The team featured 28 student-athletes with at least a 3.0 and 11 with a 4.0.

Women’s cross country (3.73), women’s track and field (3.67) and women’s basketball (3.5) also posted at least a 3.5 team GPA. The women’s basketball team boasted 10 student-athletes at or above a 3.0 for the semester, including five 4.0 students.

Football featured a department-best 35 student-athletes who finished the semester at or above a 3.0. Women’s track and field led the way with 12 student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA, among 32 who held at least a 3.0 GPA. In all, 190 Vandal student-athletes scored at least a 3.0 GPA and 51 brought home a 4.0.

Last month, 11 Vandal student-athletes earned a degree at fall commencement. The spring 2019 semester begins next Wednesday. Last spring, Idaho student-athletes set an all-time department record with a 3.24 GPA.
