Joyce Ann Strong

Joyce A. Strong, 79, a resident of Potlatch, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Tekoa Care Center, Tekoa, Wash.

She was born on April 13, 1939, in San Bernardino, Calif., to John and Audra (Mills) Cleavinger. She attended most of her schooling in Potlatch.

She married George Strong on July 20, 1956, in Potlatch, and the couple made their home there. Joyce was a homemaker most of her life. She worked at the Potlatch School District as a custodian for two years. She later worked at Ireland’s Inn for several years as a baker and made the big maple bars. She later worked at a fraternity house, Delta Sigma Phi, at Washington State University for four years.

Joyce enjoyed baking, quilting and she was an avid sports fan of her grandchildren in all the sports they played.

Survivors include her husband, George Strong of Potlatch; two sons, Mark (Deborah) Strong of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Jeff Strong of Potlatch; one daughter, Jill (Larry) Palmer of Garfield, Wash., and one sister, Judy Poirier of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Joyce is also survived by five grandchildren: Clayton Strong, Carl Strong, Brandy Montgomery, Genna Bessey and Dalton Strong and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at the Grace Community Church of Potlatch, with Pastor Kathy Kramer officiating. Urn burial will be at a later date at the Garfield Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Tekoa Care Center for the care and support for Joyce Strong.
