John E. Jones, 69

John E. Jones, 69, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, entered heaven on Dec. 28, 2018, after a five-year battle with cancer. Born Nov. 30, 1949, to Ted and Reba (Lemons) Jones in Omak, Wash., John graduated in 1968 from Orofino High School in Orofino, Idaho. There he met and married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Schey), on Valentine’s Day, 1969.

John served in the Idaho Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975. While serving, he earned his associate in applied science degree in drafting technology from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. His 40-year career as a draftsman, engineer and construction manager began at Dworshak Dam in Orofino in 1972. His many projects, ranging from dam construction, mining and high rise development to environmental remediation, took him and his family from coast to coast. He retired in 2013 when he and Linda settled in Coeur d’Alene.

An avid gun enthusiast, he enjoyed several forms of competitive target shooting. He was an active member of the Coeur d’Alene Rifle and Pistol Club, where he enjoyed shooting weekly and mentoring youth in the shooting sports. He liked spending time in his shop gunsmithing, creating miniature steam engines and other detailed metalwork.

John is survived by his loving wife, Linda of Coeur d’Alene; parents, Ted and Reba of Okanogan, Wash.; son, Michael (Tammy) of Aurora, Colo.; daughters, Kathy “KC” (Shanon) Peterson of Houston, Texas and Allison (Scott) Arrington of Carrollton, Texas; along with brothers, Frank (Peggy) and Levi (Rene). His grandchildren, Carli, Brooke, Justin, Bailey, Sophia and Amy will miss him very much. He is preceded in death by his niece, Lisa Jones.

His family could not be more proud of the man John was; a man of faith, family and integrity. We would like to sincerely thank John’s entire medical team, including Hospice of North Idaho.

A family visitation is planned from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Yates Funeral Home — Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. Please visit John’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
