David Allan Phay

David Allan Phay was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Aug. 24, 1961, to Lois and Robert Phay, the youngest of four children. He attended Borah Elementary School, Coeur d’Alene Junior High and Coeur d’Alene High School. He became a volunteer firefighter at age 18 and worked his way up to captain in the Spokane Valley Fire Department, where he served for 29 years, retiring from Station 3. He then taught fire science at Spokane Valley Tech.

Dave was an award-winning bowler, competing locally and in national tournaments for many years.

He was diagnosed with HLH in May of 2018 and passed away on Dec. 17, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Michelle of Mead, Wash.; his siblings, Jerry (June) Phay of Caldwell, Idaho, Ron (Jeanne) Phay of Post Falls, Idaho and Dorothy (Paul-deceased) Montgomery of Post Falls. Also surviving are his boys, Justin and Jason Phay of Post Falls, and Riley of Spokane, Wash., plus three step-children. In addition, he is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Ashton, Raylynn, Callie, Carter, Beau and Olivia (yet to be born), plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Having lost his mom at an early age, family was very important to Dave. He truly loved them “to the moon and back!” We rejoice that he is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his pain is gone forever. Dave was an honorable man.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Advent Lutheran Church, 13009, E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, Wash.
