Gerald ‘Jerry’ Lee Riggs

Gerald “Jerry” Lee Riggs, at the age of 85, passed away at his home on Dec. 23, 2018. He was born in Buffalo, Wyo., to James E. and Bernice B. (Collier) Riggs. He had four siblings: Robert, Frank, Eileen and James.

He moved to Idaho at a young age and lived there the remainder of his life. He married Lois Rude on May 10, 1953, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and was married for 21 years. Out of this union were born seven children: David, Renee Darby, Richard, Karen Craner, Beverly (Jon) Snider, Jolee (Jon) Wiedmaier and Curtis (Irene). He had seven grandchildren: Jonathon, Tony, Michaela, Michael, Andrew, Cole and Sierra. He also had seven great-grandchildren: Addison, Brantley, McLain, Boston, Tynlee, Kaisen, and Paxtynn. He had several nieces and nephews. He stayed in touch with his family by going to the “Riggs Family Reunions.”

Jerry worked at Grannis Petroleum and was in the construction industry most of his life. He was a member of Kootenai Masonic Lodge #24 for 57 years. He held many offices and served several terms as master of the lodge. He served the Grand Lodge of Idaho in 1989 as Grand Master. He was active in other Masonic bodies, including Calam Shrine and Eastern Star. Jerry was a proud Mason and was a friend and mentor to many. He was also president of the Panhandle Back Country Horsemen. He was given an honorary lifetime membership in 1998. He was very passionate about horses and owned quite a few in his lifetime. His grandchildren have very fond memories of riding his horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings; his son, David and grandchild, Andrew. His family will miss him very much. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
