Cardinal women clinch tourney berth

- WOMEN

YAKIMA, Wash. — Heidi Sellman scored 24 points and North Idaho College rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Yakima Valley 86-81 on Saturday to clinch a berth in the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament.

Keara Simpson added 21 points and 16 rebounds for NIC (20-7, 10-5 NWAC), which is tied for third with Walla Walla (20-8, 10-5) with one league game remaining. The top four teams from the East Region advance to the conference tournament.

The Cardinals outscored the Yaks 34-16 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 13-point deficit after three quarters.

Yakima Valley (16-11, 7-8) was eliminated from postseason contention.

Halle Eborall added 11 points and five assists off the bench for NIC, which wraps up the regular season Wednesday at Columbia Basin.

YAKIMA, Wash. — Alphonso Anderson had 29 points and 17 rebounds as the East Region champion Cardinals routed the Yaks.

Nate Pryor had 26 points and eight assists for NIC (26-2, 15-0 NWAC), which can wrap up an unbeaten conference season at Columbia Basin on Wednesday.

Khyree Armstead had 18 points and eight rebounds for Yakima Valley (7-20, 4-11).
