Strong first half leads Post Falls past Ferris

| December 30, 2019 11:32 PM

POST FALLS — A strong first half provided the host Trojans with enough cushion to overcome some shaky moments after halftime as Post Falls topped Ferris 62-50 on Monday night at The Arena.

The Trojans (8-2) opened a double-digit lead in the first quarter and had a commanding 38-14 lead at intermission.

“I was really pleased with our defensive effort — we were really sharp and crisp in the first half,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “After halftime, it was the polar opposite. We were out-rebonded, our on-ball defense was poor, and we were beyond careless with our ball security.

“We had 16 turnovers in this game, which is five more than we’ve had in any other game. That’s just unacceptable.”

Colby Gennett led the Trojans with 21 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots. Caden McLean added nine points and three steals, and Alex Horning scored 10 points for Post Falls, which opens play at the Lake City holiday tournament on Thursday against Rogers High School of Puyallup, Wash.
