- BOYS BASKETBALL

SPOKANE — Colby Gennett had 23 points, 12 rebounds and three steals for Post Falls — which finished 12 for 16 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter — en route to a 65-62 nonleague win over the Mt. Spokane Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.

“We’ve playing a super talented schedule for a reason,” said Post Falls coach Mike McLean, whose team handed Mt. Spokane (7-1) its first loss of the season. “Each game, it’s about getting better and ready for league. Playing really tough teams builds confidence and we need to be challenged. Playing high competition forces you to be at your best. We don’t need blowouts at this point in the season, we need challenges and got that tonight.”

Cole Rutherford had eight assists for the Trojans (7-2), who finished with 14 as a team on 19 field goals.

“I thought we shared the ball really well,” McLean said. “We shared and moved the ball really well. The ball never got hung up on one side. We’re going in the right direction.”

Alex Horning scored 18 points, Isaac Ballew 13 points and Caden McLean 10 points for Post Falls, which hosts Ferris on Monday.

Junior Tyson Degenhart, a Boise State commit, scored 29 points for Mt. Spokane.

“We had some good things go for us this weekend and things to build on,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “Today, it wasn’t a good effort offensively and defensively. I don’t think we annoyed them on defense, and they kind of did what they wanted. We just didn’t have a good effort this afternoon.”

Carpenter was named to the all-tournament team.

“Ali had a really good weekend and played well in all three games,” Allert said. “She had three really good games for us.”

“Katy Ryan was double-teamed all game, and it left Addie open quite a bit. She did a good job of knocking down some big shots,” Hawks coach Steve Seymour said. “It was her best game by far as a varsity player.”

Kiefer finished with 19 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and two assists for Lakeland, while Ryan added eight points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Hawks, who travel to Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.
