Gennett's big night, late basket lead Post Falls

CLARKSTON, Wash. — Senior Colby Gennett scored nearly half his team’s points, including a go-ahead 3-point play in the game’s final minute, to lead Post Falls to a 52-50 road win at Clarkston on Monday night.

“We were tied at 47 with 37 seconds left, and ran one of our sets. Colby slipped to the basket for a wide-open look and 3-point play,” Trojans coach Mike McLean said. “We got a stop, then Alex Horning made a couple free throws with eight seconds left before they hit a meaningless basket at the buzzer.”

McLean said the game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points. He credited the Bantams, particularly Tru Allen, who scored 23 points for the hosts.

“They’re going to be a real tough out in their league, and traditionally have a solid program. They run their stuff very well, and Allen was a handful for us,” he added. “We hadn’t been down to their gym in about 12 years, and it was a great environment for high school basketball. They had a great crowd tonight.”

Gennett tallied 25 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots for Post Falls (4-1), with Horning adding 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Trojans travel to face Highland of Pocatello on Thursday night, the first of three games during a three-day trip to eastern Idaho.

CLARKSTON, Wash. — The visiting Trojans rallied from an early double-digit deficit before a late scoring drought hurt them in a nonconference loss to the host Bantams on Monday night.

“We were down 12-0 to start the game, but fought our way back,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “We eventually went up eight, 38-30, but then went on a little scoring drought.

“It was kind of a roller- coaster game, and it’s been a roller-coaster season,” Allert added.

Ali Carpenter led the Trojans (4-4) with 13 points, with teammates Dylan Lovett and Katie Fleming adding 12 points each.

Ashlyn Wallace had 19 points to lead Clarkston, incluing three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. The Bantams also went 7-for-8 from the foul line.

Post Falls travels to North Central on Friday before returning to Clarkston next week for a post-Christams tournament.
