MEAL: Blessings on Thanksgiving

Heartfelt thanks to the businesses and individuals who made this year’s 22nd Annual Free Thanksgiving Day Meal sponsored by Lake City Center, the most successful ever! Although, there was no media coverage of this event, more than 1,600 meals were personally served to area residents, and/or delivered to homebound and disabled individuals; rivaling any such Free Thanksgiving Day Meal Event, anywhere.

Hats off to the architects of this event; Mike and Vickie Hillicoss, and Mike’s employer, Blue Dog RV. During the past 22 years, they have coordinated the event, recruited volunteers and raised the donations necessary to hold such a largescale event. More than 100 volunteers were utilized to perform a myriad of duties including setup and decorating, cooking, preparing and plating meals, dishwashing, greeting and seating visitors, taking individual meal orders, delivering meals and desserts to tables, providing refills of food and beverages, busing tables, cleanup, etc.

Providing the service you might only expect at a 5-star resort, volunteers made sure that all visitors enjoyed a great meal, and a memorable experience. Thank you Mike, Vickie, son Joshua, daughter Jennica, chef Greg McKenzie, numerous invaluable volunteers, Lake City Center facilities and staff, and the incredible generosity of local businesses and individuals who made this event possible!
