CRIME: Sometimes it pays
Is it ever OK for your police department to not enforce the law? Apparently the Coeur d’Alene Police Department thinks so.
My company provides video surveillance for a local auto repair shop. A couple of months ago, two people drove onto the shop’s private property and stole a piece of lawn art. Our cameras got perfect footage of the entire crime, including the car license number and a good view of what each person looks like. The shop manager provided video footage from the camera to the Coeur d’Alene PD on a thumb drive. Easily solved crime, right?
As I write this, NOTHING has been done. Now we all realize that this is not a revenue-generating crime, like speed traps and illegal left turns, but it seems that the message being sent by your police department is that property crimes won’t be prosecuted, much less investigated.
