Rewers, Pickford shine for shorthanded T-Wolves
SPOKANE VALLEY — Brooklyn Rewers totaled 24 points and 16 rebounds, and the Lake City Timberwolves took the lead early in the fourth quarter and held on for a 54-53 victory over the West Valley Eagles on Friday at the Border Clash.
“Brooklyn was absolutely fantastic, demanding the ball and going to work in the paint,” Lake City coach James Anderson said.
Lake City (4-1) played without senior guard Aubrey Avery, who scored 30 points in the T-Wolves’ victory over Sandpoint on Tuesday. But the righty-shooting Avery fell hard on her left wrist in the first quarter, and while she continued to play, it was later diagnosed to be broken. Anderson said she’ll be out until mid-January.
Sophomore guard Kendall Pickford added 15 points and eight assists for Lake City. She hit four 3-pointers, two in the third quarter, two in the fourth.
“She knew we needed the scoring, she can shoot with the best of them,” Anderson said.
Brenna Hawkins grabbed 10 rebounds for Lake City, which plays East Valley today at 1 p.m. at West Valley.
Hailey Marlow hit three of West Valley’s nine 3-pointers, and led the Eagles with 21 points. West Valley had a chance to take the lead late, but missed a pair of 3s and a layup in the final 30 seconds. Lake City eventually secured the rebound, and in the time it took the Eagles to foul the T-Wolves into the bonus, nearly all the time had run out.
