HOUSING: Headed toward homeless

| December 4, 2019 12:00 AM

I am an Idaho native and my grandparents homesteaded off Weir Road. The county spelled it wrong; it is supposed to be Wear. We moved back up to this area from southeastern Idaho because the taxes were getting so high, lack of medical care on Social Security and limited employment opportunities.

What we have found here is the housing prices have skyrocketed to where our veterans benefits won’t give us a loan since most homes are double what we qualify for.

Between the taxes we pay and our insurance costs, there isn’t enough left to make these outrageous payments.

So, I think Planning and Zoning, commissioners and developers need to look at what is going on around them and find a way to cap the cost of home ownership.

Believe me when I say it isn’t fun being homeless and not because of drugs or alcohol issues.
