Cardinals shut out Shoreline
SHORELINE, Wash. — As North Idaho College men’s soccer coach Ken Thompson noted, the first few games have been about getting the freshmen prepared for the remainder of the season.
Consider freshman goalkeeper Max Warnell ready.
Warnell, from Flathead High in Kalispell, Mont., stopped all four shots in goal for the Cardinals in a 2-0 win over Shoreline in a nonconference match at Twin Ponds Park on Friday.
“Max was solid and played high enough in the box that he was able to clear most everything that came at him,” Thompson said. “He had to pull about four or five shots out of the air, but made the plays he was supposed to make and did the job.”
Ethan Williams, from Lakeside High of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., and Mac Stultz from Sandpoint High scored goals for NIC (2-1), which plays at Rogue Community College of Medford, Ore., next Saturday.
“We created a lot of opportunities and were able to connect on more passes,” Thompson said. “We had some shots from in tight on the goal and a couple more from outside. Right now, it’s just a matter of getting ready and confident and playing the guys connecting passes.”
Shoreline is 0-2.
