SAMARITANS: Saved in a parking lot

| August 25, 2019 1:00 AM

In the recent 100-degree heat, I was staggering about the Costco parking lot with my purchases, vainly seeking my car, when two people who converged on me from different directions but turned out to be a married couple, very kindly rescued me.

Stationing me under a shady tree, they combed the huge parking lot, making it clear they would not abandon me as the store employee had done. The woman ran all over the lot clicking my remote until she found my car, and they both led me to it. I had parked in a completely different place than where I thought — which was why the remote hadn’t functioned for me in the first place. Then they jauntily went on their way with no fanfare, waving off my effusive thanks with the remark that everybody has had such an experience.

Now that’s being a good neighbor! If you see this letter, thank you again. You really made a difference to my day. This was not a “random act of kindness,” it was a deliberate one.
