Cd'A Maker Faire wants you

| April 30, 2019 1:00 AM

Gizmo-CDA is calling for makers and sponsors to participate in the “Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth.”

It’s the first Coeur d’Alene Maker Faire.

The free, indoor and outdoor, family-friendly event will take place at Gizmo CDA on the North Idaho College campus on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Maker Faire will include food trucks, live music, and hands-on activities. The event is co-sponsored by the Community Library Network, University of Idaho and North Idaho College.

Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects.

Part science fair and part county fair, the event will showcase invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Founded by Make: Magazine in 2006, there are now more than 200 Maker Faires all over the globe. This is the first time the event is being brought to the Inland Northwest.

Gizmo-CDA has an open call for makers with a priority deadline of Thursday, May 9. The event is free to register for makers who use their exhibit space for demonstrations, workshops, and hands-on activities.

Gizmo CDA is seeking a wide range of makers from the Inland Northwest to share what they do: electronics, cosplay, food makers, engineering, interactive art, jewelry making, sewing, leather crafting, repair, bicycles, green tech, robotics, virtual reality, and 3D printers are just some of the curious possibilities for the event. Makers can submit their exhibit application online at https://coeurdalene.makerfaire.com.

Makers are invited to an upcoming maker meetup and pie potluck at Gizmo-CDA on Thursday, May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Makers, volunteers, and potential sponsors can receive a tour of Gizmo, ask questions and sign up for the event.

Gizmo-CDA, Coeur d’Alene’s nonprofit makerspace, is a place where art, design, technology, and tools are connected by the hands and minds of the people of this community. It’s a place where creative play is done by everyone from “K through Gray.”
