Lake City blanks two foes in Richland

RICHLAND, Wash. — Ashlyn Allen, Olivia Zufelt and Abby Gray led the way offensively, and the Lake City Timberwolves pitched a pair of shutouts in beating Hermiston (Ore.) 11-0 and Kamiakin of Kennewick, Wash., 12-0 on Saturday at the rescheduled Richland Mixer at Columbia Playfield.

In the first game, Allen hit a two-run double in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fifth for Lake City (20-0). Olivia Zufelt drove in three runs, two on a fifth-inning double. Abby Gray was 3 for 3 and Bailie Taylor went 3 for 4.

Ashley Kaufman struck out nine over five innings in a two-hit shutout.

In the second game, Zufelt drove in six runs — a two-run triple in the third, a two-run single in the sixth and a two-run homer in the seventh. Abby Jankay hit a solo homer in the seventh, and Abby Gray went 4 for 4 to finish 7 for 7 on the day.

Amanda Curry pitched six shutout innings for the Timberwolves. Second baseman Reilley Chapman, who had a pair of hits, came on and pitched a scoreless seventh.

“Great effort by our team today,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “We threw the ball really well and were able to keep their hitters off balance. Oz (Zufelt) provided the spark for us on offense, and it was good to see some different teams as we are deep into league play.”

Lake City travels to Lewiston on Wednesday for a doubleheader to wrap up 5A Inland Empire League play.

LEWISTON — The host Bengals broke a tie game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first game of a 5A IEL doubleheader at Airport Park, when Karli Taylor put down a bunt that brought home Izzy Taylor from third and then Tai Bausch from first after the Vikings committed a throwing error.

The second game was called off due to weather.

Skyler Burke and Alexis Blankenship each had two hits for Coeur d’Alene (7-5, 4-5 5A IEL), which travels to Post Falls on Tuesday for a 5A IEL doubleheader.

Lewiston is 3-6 in league.

Lakeland drops two

at Richland tourney

RICHLAND, Wash. — Allison Russum hit a two-run home run in the second game for the Hawks, who finished 0-2 in games at Columbia Playfield.

Lakeland fell 18-0 to Richland, then lost 14-4 to Southridge of Kennewick in games, rescheduled from March 16 due to snow in the area.

Lakeland (6-13), which clinched the 4A Inland Empire League title after Moscow swept Sandpoint on Friday in Moscow, travels to Moscow for a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.
