Panhandle Symphony Orchestra to perform Tuesday

| April 26, 2019 1:00 AM

The Panhandle Symphony Orchestra is preparing to present its Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at Lake City High School auditorium.

This free concert will be performed by the orchestra’s 50 volunteer musicians, all community members.

Conductor Tim Sandford has chosen a special “Irish Suite” arranged by Leroy Anderson. The Suite contains various pieces such as the “Irish Washerwoman” and the “Wearing of the Green” and other Irish tunes familiar to many.

“The Prayer of St. Gregory” by Alan Hovhaness is a Trumpet Duet presented by well-known local trumpeters Phil Aarhus and Terry Jones accompanied by the Orchestra. Johann Strauss, famous for Waltz dance music, wrote a waltz titled “Artist’s Life.” Although not quite as familiar as others, it incorporates his waltz theme. Not to be forgotten is “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius. This arrangement is a favorite of the orchestra members.
