Moak, Gleaves key Trojan split

POST FALLS — McKenna Moak hit a bases-clearing double in the third inning for Post Falls in an 8-4 win over the Lewiston Bengals in the first game of a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Wednesday at Post Falls High.

Bubba Gleaves scored three runs and Kelsey Horn had three hits and two runs scored for Post Falls in the opener.

In the nightcap, Taryn Barney drove in four runs for the Bengals, who held off the Trojans 8-7 despite Alyssa Krause’s grand slam in the sixth inning.

Kahlea Dumas had three hits and two RBIs for Post Falls (8-7, 2-6 5A IEL), which travels to Lake City for a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m.

Lewiston is 2-6 in league.

COEUR d’ALENE — Madi Whittemore won in straight sets for the Vikings, who swept in girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles to top the Bears at Coeur d’Alene High.

Next up for Coeur d’Alene is the Inland Empire Classic in Spokane on Friday and Saturday.

“It was a good match all around,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Laura Taylor said. “Madi just keeps rolling through her matches. She’s only lost 11 games in 16 sets this season. This weekend will be a good test with the competition around the area. It will be interesting to see how she’ll compete there.”

Noah Cobb won in straight sets for the Coeur d’Alene boys.

“Noah just keeps finding ways to win,” Coeur d’Alene boys coach Dan O’Connor said. “Our No. 1 doubles (Nez Ogle/Kobie DeLeonard) lost the last time and really had a great turnaround and played great this time.”
