POST FALLS — A good day to run showed in some great times on the track at the annual Christina Finney Relays at Post Falls High on Thursday.

Some, just great times.

Lake City’s 4x200 relay team of Bridget Rieken, McKenzie Fletcher, Lilith Tweedy and Angelyca Chapman won in 4 minutes, .25 seconds, over 10 seconds faster than second-place finisher Post Falls.

“To run a 4-flat on April 17th, that’s just huge for this time of year,” Lake City coach Kelly Reed said. “(That time), anytime in the year, but in particular this time of year, is unbelievable.”

Lake City won the team title, which was combined in this meet between the boys’ and girls’ team scores, with a 262.2.

In a runner-up finish in the long jump, Lake City junior Jacob Schnatter — who won the 200 — broke the school record at 22 feet, 2 inches.

“There was just a lot of good things all over the place,” Reed said. “If we can keep the kids healthy, a few good things could shape up down the road.”

Timberlake senior Chase Gardom won in the long jump and triple jump, and was second in the high jump.

Sandpoint 11-1

Lakeland 1-12

SANDPOINT — For everything that went right for the Bulldogs in the opener, it jumped sides in the nightcap at Memorial Field.

Lakeland, which walked 13 in a loss in the opener, bounced back on the back of Justin Dennison in the second game as the junior struck out six to help the Hawks get a 4A Inland Empire League split.

“We were absolutely horrible in every facet of the first game,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “We couldn’t do anything right, and everything seemed to bounce Sandpoint’s way. We had a good discussion between games, and definitely rose to the challenge. Justin was fabulous for us on the mound and had excellent command of his pitches.”

Dennison finished the day with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

“He was hitting the ball square all night and had some key hits for us,” Bradbury said. “If we can just quit beating ourselves, I know we can get some consecutive wins on the board.”
