Celebrate trees April 27 in Cd'A

The first-place winner in the city of Coeur d’Alene’s Arbor Day sticker art contest is Lakeland High School student Chelsea Wrotenberg.

Coeur d’Alene’s Arbor Day celebration will be Saturday, April 27 with events in two locations.

Festivities will begin with a tree planting at 11 a.m. at the Workers Memorial at City Park, near the roundabout off Fort Grounds Drive.

The celebration will then continue at 12:30 p.m. in the gazebo at the new Memorial skate park, including a free lunch sponsored by Sun Valley Tree Service, Inc.

During the ceremony, the city of Coeur d’Alene will be presented with the Tree City USA Award for the 35th year. The winners of the Arbor Day sticker art contest, presented in conjunction with the Arbor Day Organization of North Idaho, will also be recognized, along with the winners of the Coeur d’Alene Arbor Day poster contest.

Sticker art contest winners, from area high schools, were chosen by local fourth-grade students. Their art is now on display at Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

Third place: Valencia Fresques, Lake City High School

Fourth place: Abby Makowski, Coeur d’Alene High School

Fifth place: Jozee Russell, Coeur d’Alene High School

Sixth place: Cloie Barron, Lake City High School

Arbor Day poster art contest winners are local fifth-grade students chosen by the city’s Urban Forestry Committee.

Second place: Allison Carrico, Dalton Elementary

Third place: Evan Magrini, Borah Elementary

The city of Coeur d’Alene and the Arbor Day Organization of North Idaho will be handing out tree seedlings on a first-come, first-served basis to celebration event attendees. More than 74,000 trees (more than 70 different species) have been given to local fourth-graders since 1987. There will also be art displays and door prizes.
