May 21 election deadlines approach

COEUR d’ALENE ­­­— Kootenai County voters have a month to request an absentee ballot for the May 21 taxing districts election.

"Voters who want an absentee ballot mailed to them for the May 21 election need to submit their request by 5 p.m. Friday, May 10," Kootenai County Elections Manager Judd Wilson said.

In addition to contested races in several taxing districts, voters will decide ballot questions.

Kootenai Joint School District will have a levy question on the ballot. Northern Lakes and Timberlake fire protection districts will have levy questions on their ballot. Northern Lakes covers Rathdrum, Hayden, Hayden Lake and Garwood. Timberlake covers Athol and Bayview.

The Bayview Water and Sewer District will also have a bond proposal on the ballot.

Eligible voters may request an absentee ballot no later than May 10 at https://bit.ly/2SpKn8d.

The completed request can be delivered to the Elections Office at 1808 N. Third St. in Coeur d'Alene, mailed, faxed to 208-446-2184 or emailed to kcelections@kcgov.us. Postage on returned ballots will be paid by Kootenai County.

Early voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Elections Office from May 6 to May 17.

Registered voters should bring a photo ID with them to early voting and at the polls.

New registrants and voters who have moved or changed names must re-register. They must bring a photo ID and proof of residency such as a utility bill or auto insurance certificate with the voter’s current residence address listed, dated at least 30 days prior to their voting date.
