Watch out for trees on this challenging stretch of play at Highlands Golf Course.

A recent view of Prairie Falls Golf Club and its surrounding neighborhood.

It’s April in North Idaho, and the snow is (hopefully) gone for good. The sunny, warm days send golfers into their garages to rummage for their bag of clubs. Check behind the snowblower, or if you’re as classy as me, just check the trunk of your car. I haven’t moved them since October.

The thought of living on or near a golf course has probably crossed the minds of many avid players, though affordability and availability can be obstacles. Let’s focus on Post Falls options for now, and we’ll head over to Coeur d’Alene and Hayden opportunities in an upcoming column.

If you’re looking for an elevated view, the Highlands in Post Falls can’t be beat by much, especially considering how close the neighborhood sits to the main commercial stretch of the city, as well as near instant access to Interstate 90. The Highlands 18-hole golf course is a beautiful and challenging course, but that’s not the only attraction on top of the hill. A full-service restaurant and tap house is a popular hub, and the Highlands Day Spa attracts residents (and people from all around the area) with its lineup of massages, facials and more.

Residential options include well-kept existing homes in the Highland Park Estates, as well as the gated Glengarry Estates.

Drive up to the Highlands and you’ll also notice a cleared area and signage for the upcoming Saint Andrews Place, which will be a gated development consisting of eight lots. The homes will offer premium amenities and views of the course. Expect to see these pop up later this summer and into the fall. Current pricing hovers around the mid-$400,000s. For more information, contact the Zac Scott Group with Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty, and Neighborhood of the Week will check in as construction progresses this summer.

As for existing homes for sale, there are some big, impressive homes on and near the course currently listed, including a 3,600-plus-square-foot home listed at $475,000, and a 4,500-plus-square-foot home listed at $625,000. Need the prices to come down a bit? You won’t find much, but there’s a 2,200-square-foot home just a bit north of the course listed at $265,000.

More availability can be found around Post Falls’ Prairie Falls Golf Club, located off Spokane Street near Prairie Avenue. This is a solid course too; I’ve played it a few times and have only hit one house in my entire amateur career there.

At the northernmost point of the course are two active listings near Prairie, including a four-bedroom, 2,500-plus-square-foot home sitting on the course listed just under $325,000 (with two golf passes being dangled for good measure). Just a few houses down the same road to the east, there’s an 1,800-plus-square-foot home listed for $290,000.

A little ways south (on a road called Slice) are two nice pending sales that were originally listed $315-320,000 range for around 1,800-square-foot homes. There are also some gorgeous new construction options near the easternmost side of the course (closer to Idaho Road) that are priced in the high $400,000s for more than 2,500 square feet of space. Some smaller homes (1,200-1,500 square feet) ranging in age by about 20 years are also available just north of those, with prices closer to $250,000.

The Links 18-hole course off Chase Road near Highway 53 serves as the third excellent option for Post Falls golfers. It’s a bit more isolated than the other two, but there’s a flurry of real estate activity south of there near Prairie Avenue that we’ve covered quite a bit in past columns.
