COEUR d’ALENE — Keaton Murphree scored on an assist from Ty Shaw for the eventual game-winning goal in the 54th minute, lifting the Lake City Timberwolves to a 3-2 win over the Post Falls Trojans in the 5A Inland Empire League finale for both schools at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Saturday.

Lake City (12-0, 6-0 5A IEL) will be the top seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament, and will host Post Falls (4-9, 1-5) in the opening round next Saturday at 2 p.m. Coeur d’Alene will host Lewiston in the other semifinal.

“Unfortunately, we came out flat and did not start well,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “Post Falls took advantage of our slow start and scored two first half goals. A lot of teams would give up mentally when down by two, but this team never quits. We got one right back before the half and then made some halftime adjustments and scored two more unanswered goals in the second half to secure the win.”

Cadin Perry and Aidan O’Halloran scored goals for Post Falls.

“I thought we came out very quick and made a statement,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “I thought we held with them, but just can’t seem to get it all the way through and made a couple of mistakes that cost us. But we’re playing well.”

“Erika, she’s great with the ball on her feet,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “When she’s in the zone, she’s tough to stop. The girls came out and played really well. We moved the ball around the best we have all season. It was a fun game to watch.”
