Lake City takes first three

VOLLEYBALL

MERIDIAN — Ashley Kaufman totaled 26 kills on the day for the Timberwolves, who finished 3-0 in pool play on the opening day of the Rocky Mountain Invitational at Rocky Mountain High.

Lake City beat Borah (21-11, 21-8), Fruitland (21-10, 21-13) and Capital (21-12, 21-8) in pool play to open the tournament.

“The girls came out and played really well,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “We really gelled and have been working on some things at practice. So far, the tempo of the offense is faster and it was a lot of fun to see and watch today.”

Klaire Mitchell had 51 assists, Reilley Chapman five aces and Janae Rayborn 19 kills for Lake City (15-1), which continues pool play today, then enters bracket play in the afternoon.

SPOKANE — Kelly Horning had eight kills and nine digs to lead Coeur d’Alene to a 25-19, 20-25, 15-13 win over Northwest Christian in the opening night of the Linda Sheridan Classic on Friday at Lewis and Clark High.

Olivia Haakenson had seven kills, Taylin Rowley 11 assists and Lauren Phillips five kills, three aces and 10 digs for Coeur d’Alene (12-4), which resumes pool play today against St. Maries and Enumclaw at Lewis and Clark.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kaylee Prosch had 12 assists for the Royals in a 25-9, 25-9, 25-15 win over the Flathead Valley Home School Association at Holy Family Catholic School.

Julia Haag had six kills, Gabby Cavanaugh five aces and Delaney LePard eight digs for North Idaho Christian (5-5), which faces Country Christian of Pasco at Holy Family Catholic School today at noon.

Sami Badgett had 28 assists for St. Maries (12-8), Ragan had 14 digs, Kaci Haeg and Kirsten Miller two blocks each.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore Sarah Hines scored once in each half as the host Panthers blanked the Badgers at Community United Methodist Church Field.

“On our senior night, it was quite fitting that all four seniors who could play (Elizabeth Lehosit, Eliason Cherrstrom, Cali Shipman and Emma Bartlett) — we have one injured senior — found the back of the net,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “We worked on possessing through our backline and then advancing toward the goal. I’m pleased we were able to accomplish that several times throughout the game.”

Lehosit had three assists, two on corner kicks, for Coeur d’Alene Charter (14-0-0, 11-0-0 Intermountain League), which plays at the Coeur d’Alene junior varsity on Thursday.
