Virgil Roy Lucier, 68

Virgil Roy Lucier, 68, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at his home in Careywood, Idaho. Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minot, N.D.

Virgil was born Nov. 24, 1949, in Belcourt, N.D. He was a veteran, and proudly served his tour of duty from 1972 to 1976 as US Army Specialist Fourth Class.

Virgil graduated from Minot State University in 1990 with a degree in drug and alcohol addiction, combined with minors in criminal justice and psychology. Virgil and Wendy Weicker married in 1991 after meeting at MSU. They moved to Oregon, where he was a counseling team leader, having various offices along the coast.

He then contracted with the Oregon Department of Justice as program manager at Shutter Creek Correctional Institution. Virgil and Wendy moved to Careywood, where they actualized Virgil’s dream of having a farm with a menagerie of animals. Following a brief retirement, Virgil joined the Hagadone Golf Course team for 17 years as a greenskeeper and maintenance man.

Virgil was kind and loving, always generous with his time and energy. He was outgoing and enjoyed being with people, having fun or sharing his knowledge. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping.

He will be truly missed by his wife, Wendy Lucier of Careywood; brother, Ron (Pat) Lucier of Minot, N.D.; and two sisters, Francis (Ed) Ashcraft of Texas and Lorraine (Dick) Noel of New Bedford, Mass.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Lucier, and sister, Donna.
