PARKING: Illegal is illegal

| September 26, 2018 1:00 AM

Vickie Currie was critical of the sheriff’s department ticketing possible out of town girls softball tournament fans for illegal parking. I don’t know how to break this to Vickie but the police in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Boise, Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, Chicago and Washington, D.C., do not differentiate between local and out of town violators.

No parking signs and curb markings are not whimsical signage put up by a street department high on drugs. They are there for the good of the community. Police vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances need access. Traffic needs to flow smoothly. Access to places of business, access to homes, churches, schools, fire stations, hospitals, etc., etc., need to be maintained.

What Vickie should do is be grateful that illegally parked vehicles aren’t subject to immediately being towed to a city impound lot. That would really raise the hackles.

When I was a kid, I was instructed by my parents that when I was a visitor in someone’s home that I was to be on my best behavior and I was not to block my host’s driveway by parking illegally.
