Norwegian Heritage Fair Saturday in Cd'A

Viking jewelry, rosemaling, chip carving and wheat weaving are but four of the cultural arts and crafts that will be offered for display or sale at the annual Norwegian Heritage Fair

Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d’Alene.

A bake sale will offer lefse and other treats. Norwegian waffles with jam plus coffee or juice will be sold from 10 to 11 a.m. only while a ham luncheon is planned for 12:30 p.m. for $8 for adults. Lunch reservations by Wednesday, Sept. 26 are preferred, but call to see if space is still available, Jean Sorley, 208-771-3081.

A presentation about the Norwegian and Norwegian-American 99th Battalion and their role in World War II will be given by Sonia Bertsch, whose father was part of that group. She will speak and show slides at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., assisted by her daughter, Alyssa.

Other vendors including Nordic knitwear and woodworking will be present, 2019 Norwegian and Swedish calendars will be available, and a schedule of short films about Norway will be shown in the church sanctuary.

The event is sponsored by the local Sons of Norway Lodge, here since 1910.
