Walsh wins Inland Empire

PGA chapter championship

WORLEY — Brent Walsh of the Coeur d’Alene Golf Club shot a 6-under 138 over two days to win the 2018 Inland Empire PGA Chapter Championship on Tuesday at Circling Raven Golf Club.

Walsh shot 68 on Monday and 70 on Tuesday for a one-shot victory over Community Colleges of Spokane golf coach Corey Prugh. North Idaho College golf coach Russell Grove, who won the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship last week, finished sixth at 2-under 142 (71-71).

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department is currently taking team registrations for the men’s basketball league that begins Sunday, Nov. 11.

This league is mainly played on Sundays, with a few weeknight games.

Team entry fee is $565. Entry deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 16. Teams will play a 10-game schedule.

Illinois wins women’s golf

tourney at Cd’A Resort Course

COEUR d’ALENE — Idaho’s women placed third, Washington State sixth out of 18 teams as the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational concluded Tuesday at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

Illinois won the tournament, shooting even par as a team over the three-day tourney. San Jose State was second, five strokes back, Idaho was at 19 over par, WSU 24 over par. Gonzaga finished 15th at 45 over par.

Abegail Arevalo of San Jose State was the individual champion, shooting a 2-under 211 (72-71-68). Michelle Kim of Idaho tied for fifth at 1-over 214 (71-72-71) and teammate Sophie Hausmann, who played in the U.S. Women’s Open in June, tied for eighth at 2-over 215 (74-68-73). Marie Lund-Hansen led Washington State, finishing tied for 11th 3-over 216 (68-73-75).

Cougar baseball’s 2018 recruiting class receives national recognition

TUCSON, Ariz. — Washington State’s 2018 signing class has been ranked No. 32 in the country, according to Collegiate Baseball’s 2018 evaluation of the NCAA Division I baseball classes.

For fourth-year head coach Marty Lees, this is the second time in three seasons that the Cougars have produced a nationally-ranked recruiting class after the 2016 class was ranked No. 28 in the country by D1baseball.com.

The Cougars 2018 signing class features 21 newcomers including 12 who earned All-State honors, one Junior College All-American and a pair of high school signees who were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.

The signing class includes a pair of freshmen infielders from Lake City High, Kodie Kolden and Kyle Manzardo.

The Cougars will host a pair of scrimmages at Bailey-Brayton Field this fall, facing Central Washington on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. and Gonzaga on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
