Darrel Schmidt Brown

Darrel Schmidt Brown passed away Sept. 23, 2018, in Lewiston, Idaho. Darrel was born on Jan. 17, 1941, in Rosalia, Wash., to Robert and Lillian Brown, and was the oldest of nine children.

He graduated from high school in Rathdrum, Idaho, where he met and married Barbara Asher in 1959. They traveled the northwest working for the railroad before settling in Seattle, Wash., and working for Boeing and Continental Can. In 1970 they moved to Moscow, Idaho, where he worked for the University of Idaho as a machinist, retiring there after 29 years.

Darrel was an outdoorsman all his life, enjoying camping, hunting and hiking with his family. He became an avid golfer in retirement and moved to Clarkston, Wash., to enjoy the year-round golfing.

Darrel is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; his daughters, Shelley (Curt) McLam and Julie (Jim) Daehn; his grandson, Pat (Kaitlyn) McLam; brothers, Kenny, Dennis and Larry and sisters, Betty, Patsy and Kathy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nancy and Bonnie and grandson, Sam McLam.

A memorial service for Darrel will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Clarkston.

He will be laid to rest in Elk River, Idaho, at a later date. Contributions in Darrel’s memory may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1115 13th St., Clarkston, WA 99403.
