The homes built by Creekside Construction stand on a solid foundation. For more than 30 years, the Hayden-based custom home builder and restoration company has built both quality homes and lasting relationships with everyone from customers to subcontractors.

As a family-owned business, the bonds that hold the company together are deeply-rooted, as well. Dave and Derek Adams, co-owners and identical twins, took over Creekside Construction this year from their stepfather, founder Brent Baldwin.

“For the last 15 years, the twins learned every aspect of the construction business from the ground up,” said Brent Baldwin. “They were anxious to take the reins and I proudly pass the heritage to them. They have and will continue to build the quality homes Creekside has been recognized for.”

Derek said, “As the new owners, we have big shoes to fill, but we’re ready to meet the challenge.”

In college, the brothers worked in some of San Diego’s most exclusive hotels, where they honed their communication skills. As builders, that experience has given them a unique perspective.

“Communication is the most important part of construction,” Dave said. “There are many decisions to be made and it’s critical to listen and really hear what the customer wants. After all, it’s their dream, not ours.”

“Sometimes people who have worked only in the construction industry don’t have that,” Derek added. “They have every ability to build a home, but they may not have those communication skills to set clear expectations with honest deliverables.”

For a business like Creekside Construction, where relationships are central, it’s a valuable skill indeed. Creekside has worked with many of the same subcontractors for more than 20 years. It’s a testament to the trust and loyalty they’ve earned.

“That’s what sets Creekside apart,” said Paula Merk, Director of Business Development at Creekside. “It’s not just another job. It’s a relationship.”

Because a custom build takes months, it’s important to develop a great relationship between builder and homeowner. Derek and Dave carefully select which projects they’ll take on, accepting only between eight and 10 new home builds per year. An interview at Creekside goes both ways, they said, to ensure the right fit for all parties.

“When Creekside completes a project, it’s our intent that our customer has a friend for life. They become part of our chosen family,” Dave said.

Phillip Porte became part of the extended Creekside family in 2016, when the company worked on his Hayden home.

“Transitioning from a vacation home to a retirement home came with its share of trepidation,” Porte said. “Almost immediately we were put to ease by the Creekside team, a comfort that lasted during the entire construction process. The completed project was exactly what we had envisioned!”

In addition to building custom homes, Creekside Construction also restores damaged homes. After a windstorm, a freeze or a bad fire season, Creekside focuses on “putting lives back together in times of crisis,” applying the same quality that they would if building from the ground up.

Often, customers use a restoration as an opportunity to improve or upgrade their home.

“You’re not just getting a company that comes in and merely fixes the damage,” Merk said. “You’re getting a custom home builder that pays attention to every detail.”

Looking to the future, Dave and Derek said it’s an honor to maintain Creekside’s legacy as trusted builders of quality homes, and they will continue to put human relationships before profit.

Having worked and lived together all their lives, and each with their own strengths, these twin builders make a great team.
