Horning leads Coeur d'Alene to sweep at Lewiston

LEWISTON — Kelly Horning had 10 kills and three blocks as the visiting Coeur d’Alene Vikings swept the Lewiston Bengals 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 in 5A Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at Booth Hall.

Olivia Haakenson added seven kills for Coeur d’Alene (9-4, 2-1 5A IEL). Taylin Rowley had 19 assists and two aces, Lauren Phillips 15 assists, seven digs and two aces, Sarah Wilkey seven kills and two aces, Maggie Bloom six digs.

“We had improved ball control which allowed our setters multiple options,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “We also had a solid performance serving, which affected their ability to run their offense.”

Lewiston is 0-3 in league.

Coeur d’Alene returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lakeland.

RATHDRUM — Middle blockers Tanai Jenkins and Claire Heberer earned kudos from coach Mike Summers after the Timberwolves swept the Hawks 25-11, 25-13, 25-20 in nonleague play at Hawk Court.

Jenkins totaled six kills and three blocks, and Heberer had five kills and three blocks.

“I thought our middles did a really good job controlling the net, closing the block, making it difficult for Lakeland,” Summers said.

Ashley Kaufman had eight kills and two aces for Lake City (11-1). Janae Rayborn had seven kills and three aces. Klaire Mitchell had 24 assists, 11 digs and two aces, Reilley Chapman 11 digs, Kiki Cates two aces.

“I thought we served aggressively — Lakeland was out of system most of the night,” said Summers, whose T-Wolves totaled 10 aces.

For Lakeland (12-6), Abbey Neff had 19 assists, Daphne Carroll 11 kills, Katy Ryan seven kills, Jenny Wirtz three blocks, Olivia Cooper 12 digs, Summer Powell 10 digs.

Lakeland travels to Reardan on Saturday.

Lake City returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lewiston.

Post Falls

SANDPOINT — Tessa Sarff had 14 kills and seven blocks for the visiting Trojans, but the Bulldogs continued their strong play with a 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-13 victory in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

Ali Carpenter added 21 digs and three aces for Post Falls (6-4), Kayla Mayo had 15 assists and four aces, Courtney Finney 13 assists and three aces, Megan Wood five blocks.

“Sandpoint is much improved, they played solid tonight,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We were pretty scrappy tonight. Tessa and Ali played solid.”

Grace Hicks had 12 kills and 16 digs for Sandpoint (9-5).

Post Falls plays at Kentridge of Kent, Wash., on Friday, then competes in the Kent Classic on Saturday.

St. Maries

SPIRIT LAKE — McKeeley Tonkin totaled 21 assists, 10 digs and three aces as the host Tigers swept the Lumberjacks 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 in nonleague play.

Kenzie Dean had 17 digs, six kills and two aces for Timberlake (12-4). Kylie Marneris had 20 digs and four aces, Ashlyn Mallet eight kills and five digs, Brooke Jessen five kills and two blocks.

For St. Maries (8-8), Kaci Haeg had 13 digs and five kills, Dakotah Wilks 14 assists and two aces, Madison Cordell five kills and three blocks, Elizabeth Ragan five kills and two aces.

On Thursday, St. Maries plays host to Orofino, and Timberlake is home vs. Kellogg.

HARRISON FLATS — Rachel Schroeder had nine aces, five kills and five digs as the visiting Jaguars beat the Warriors 25-7, 25-7, 25-7 in North Star League play.

Trinity Morrow added six aces and four digs for Genesis Prep (2-2, 2-1 North Star League). Emily Martinez had 14 assists and three aces, Josie Scribner nine kills and two blocks, Jayci Blood three digs and two aces.

“We jumped on them strong with our serving and did really well on defense, and were able to keep the girls behind the line,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said.

Kootenai (2-5, 1-2) travels to Lakeside on Thursday.

Genesis Prep visits St. George’s on Friday in Spokane.

MULLAN — Glory Olson had six kills and six aces for the Knights in a 25-15, 25-16, 25-23 win over the Tigers in North Star League play at the Mullan Pavilion.

Tenley Lambert had six kills and Alyssa SiJohn 26 assists for Lakeside.

“The team played very well all-around,” said Lakeside coach Brad Veile, whose team finished with 13 aces. “We distributed balls around the court and they had trouble picking up our serves. The girls did a good job of working together and playing as a team.”

Lakeside (2-4, 1-3 NSL) hosts Kootenai on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Kaylee Prosch had 17 assists for the Royals in a 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13 loss to The Oaks in Mountain Christian League play at Holy Family Catholic School.

Celeste Lund had eight kills, Julia Haag four aces and two blocks and Delaney LePard 19 digs for North Idaho Christian (2-4, 1-3 MCL), which faces the Coeur d’Alene Charter JV at Holy Family Catholic School on Thursday.
