National Voter Registration Day is Sept. 25

| September 18, 2018 1:00 AM

The League of Women Voters of Kootenai County will be participating in National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The League will be out in force from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Library, the Post Falls Library and the Walmart in Hayden, 550 W. Honeysuckle Ave.

They will be assisting with voter registration and updating necessary information for currently registered voters.

“Every eligible American deserves the chance to participate in this year’s pivotal elections,” said Bonnie Douglas, LWV Kootenai County spokesperson. “Voter registration is the first step to ensuring your voice is heard. Although Election Day registration is allowed in Idaho, we provide convenient opportunities to register before the Nov. 6 election.”

Now in its seventh year, National Voter Registration Day has been a major campaign to register voters in communities and online. Embraced by a host of celebrities, bipartisan elected officials and organizations, NVRD leverages the collective impact of thousands of community partners, including hundreds of League of Women Voters groups. More than 400 local League of Women Voters affiliates are participating in this year’s event.

“The League of Women Voters of Kootenai County empowers voters through education, registration and get-out-the-vote activities in every election,” said Douglas. “We host candidate and issue forums and voter registration drives while providing trusted and timely statewide elections information on?VOTE411.org and who is on the local ballot on lwvkcvoterguide.org.

“We believe our democracy is strongest when a voter is informed and every voice is heard.”
