Cards win LCC tourney

LONGVIEW, Wash. — North Idaho College bounced back from a setback on Friday against Pierce, beating the Raiders of Lakewood, Wash., 25-19, 25-23, 25-14 in the championship match of the Lower Columbia College tournament Saturday.

“After the loss yesterday, we were excited to get another shot at them,” said NIC coach Kelsey Stanley, whose team lost to Pirece 25-15, 25-20 in pool play on Friday. “The girls got off to a great start offensively with our serving and were able to get Pierce out of system right away.”

NIC beat Lower Columbia 25-22, 15-25, 25-18, 25-17 in the semifinals and Big Bend 23-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 15-8 to start bracket play on Saturday.

NIC (12-6) travels to Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Autumn Stewart intercepted a pass, then beat the Knights goalkeeper for the game’s first goal to spark the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Region win at Eisenwinter Field.

Ellory Ferris had two goals — both in the second half — and an assist for NIC (3-3-2, 3-1 NWAC).

“Ellory had another good game scoring, but it was really Autumn who got us going by intercepting a back pass and beating their keeper 1v1,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said.

Kaleigh Haworth had a goal and assist for NIC, which travels to Walla Walla on Wednesday.

Wenatchee Valley is 0-5-2, 0-4.
