Low to mid-$200K prices are available in the Heartland neighborhood in Coeur d’Alene.

Photo by TYLER WILSON Heartland is a quiet neighborhood just a minute's drive from Highway 95 in Coeur d'Alene.

Technology is a beautiful thing, and also, sometimes a bit intense.

Case in point, while poking around on Zillow.com, I noticed a cluster of similarly priced homes in the neighborhood known as the Heartland, located off Wilbur Avenue and west of Best Buy in Coeur d’Alene. There were some nice, affordable options here, and we’ll talk about some of those “best buys near Best Buy” in a moment.

Before driving out to a neighborhood, I like to cross reference the listings on Realtor.com. I scrolled their map over to a building that was obviously the Coeur d’Alene Best Buy, though it wasn’t labeled as such. When I zoomed in on the building, the site provided me with the layout of the departments inside Best Buy. Home theater on the north side of the building, movies and music in the back, appliances in the back corner, etc.

In contrast, I couldn’t get the Realtor.com map to even load the shape of a building where the Target should be.

Turns out, the good old Google map showed every department of Best Buy too, whereas most of the large businesses in the area were marked but not so specifically detailed. It seems like those Geek Squad guys at Best Buy went the extra mile in submitting their information to the Google overlords. All I’m saying is I appreciate the attention to detail.

Anyway, Neighborhood of the Week. The Heartland neighborhood is perfectly positioned for those looking to be within just a minute or two of north Coeur d’Alene amenities. With Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue closeby, it’s a suitable option for those wanting direct paths into central and downtown Coeur d’Alene (via 95) or to Post Falls (via Prairie).

Just to prove Best Buy didn’t pay for its positive remarks in this space, the Heartland area is close to other major shopping hubs (Target, Walmart, Petco, Bed, Bath & Beyond, all those wonderful stores in the Silver Lake Mall). The list goes on. Any and all of those businesses are welcome to sponsor the space, by the way. Print Advertising Works!

All kidding aside, the area’s central location is coupled with affordability. Of the shared active listings between both Zillow and Realtor.com, there are a few current options in the $230,000 range. A five-bedroom, two-bathroom home with about 1,850 square feet is listed at $237,000. There’s also a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home with almost 1,500 square feet listed at $230,000.

Move a little more west and you’ll find two listings that are a couple of years newer (2002 vs. 1999), a little bit larger (2,000-square-foot range) and a bit more expensive ($280,000). Also appealing to some — the listings tout the absence of Homeowners Association fees in the neighborhood.

For those looking for a little less space, there is also a couple of listings with around 1,000 square feet. Both are two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes listed at $205,000 and $215,000, respectively.

The area just outside of Heartland has a number of living options, including a few groupings of apartments and townhome options off Canfield Avenue west of the highway, some neighborhoods with larger homes and more managed HOA conditions, and even some pockets of new construction off Canfield and Hanley avenues closer to Ramsey Road.

It’s all there to explore on these intricate online maps, but it’s also a pretty easy spot to drive through too. And the nearby Panda Express, Dutch Bros., Wendy’s and McDonald’s all provide swift nourishment as well. Print Advertising Works!
