Lake City starts fast, come up short

COEUR d’ALENE — Madi Lasher opened the scoring on an assist from Chloe Teets for Lake City, which fell to the Mead Panthers 2-1 in a nonleague soccer match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

“The first goal was one of the best we’ve scored all season,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “In the two games we’ve lost, we’ve been our own worst enemy. Our losses aren’t from the other team doing something to beat us, but from us causing moments against ourselves that our costing us games. We need to get that figured out by the end of the season. The learning moments are still happening, and so I’ve got to do a better job at preparing them and getting those players ready on the finishing end. We need to eliminate those moments of letting others score in the final third of the field.”

Lake City (5-2) resumes 5A Inland Empire League play at Coeur d’Alene on Saturday at noon.
