Cards fall to Yakima Valley

YAKIMA, Wash. — North Idaho College pulled to within a 2-1 deficit on an own goal in the 55th minute, but were unable to get any closer, falling to the Yakima Valley Yaks 3-1 in an East Region match on Wednesday afternoon.

“We had possession of the ball for most of the game, but had trouble putting the ball into the net,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said.

NIC scored its goal after a corner kick came from Linnea Pretzer went into the left post, where Ellory Ferris kicked the ball across the goal, deflecting off two Yakima players and into the net.

NIC (2-3-2, 2-1 NWAC) returns home on Saturday to face Wenatchee Valley starting at noon at Eisenwinter Field.

Lakeland High product Harley Hendry opened the scoring for Yakima Valley (5-0-1, 2-0-1) on an assist from Brianna Beuck. Courtney Handlen scored two goals for Yakima Valley, which also scored a win over Walla Walla last Saturday in Yakima.
