SIRENS: An alarming trend

| September 12, 2018 1:00 AM

It’s 7 a.m. and the daily rash of sirens has already started.

Some days our community sounds like New York City. Blaring firetruck sirens, along with support vehicles, fill the air with alarmingly more frequency. That much screaming used to mean a front-page newspaper article the next morning reporting some horrible, tragic accident. But usually there is little information to explain all the previous day’s alarms.

I have the utmost respect for emergency responders and know they are only doing their job. I just wonder why the uptick in calls that require so many sirens. Is it normal for a community this size? Is there any solution to the noise problem? I’ve lived a half mile from the Ramsey Road station for 25 years and never heard the number of daily sirens we’re experiencing. It can only get worse as our area explodes in growth.

It’s quiet again. Whew! Many thanks to all the emergency personnel who come to our rescue all day long. I just hope you’re wearing ear protection!
