Naomi Ruth Stewart, 90

Naomi Ruth Stewart, age 90, of Hayden, Idaho, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Honeysuckle Retirement Center in Hayden.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way. Arrangements are provided by Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Online registry and condolences may be found at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.

Ruth was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Sycamore, Pa., to Clyde and Mary Anderson. After graduating high school, she attended Waynesburg College and in 1950 graduated from McConnell Airline School. She was hired as a flight attendant by Trans World Airlines (TWA) and worked for them until 1954. It was on her second flight for TWA that she met Cyrus E Stewart, who she married on Oct. 2, 1954, in Cape Horn, Idaho. They spent the first six years of their marriage on the East Coast, then moved to the West Coast for eight years, and finally settled in Idaho in 1968, when they built a mountaintop home overlooking Lake Pend Oreille. They moved to Hayden, Idaho, in 1992 and her husband Cy died shortly after.

Ruth was passionate about traveling and visited numerous places over the years, including China, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, just to name a few. Her home is filled with many unique souvenirs of the cultures she visited and she had a story for each one.

One of Ruth’s favorite hobbies was searching for treasures with her metal detector, which she was able to enjoy while wintering in Mexico with her husband. Ruth also enjoyed reading, eating Mexican food and she was a diehard football fan.

Ruth will be missed deeply by her family and friends. She was a special part of the family and has left us all with beautiful memories to carry into our future.

She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Walker of Pennsylvania; her brother, Duane (Ruth) Iams of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Doris Iams of Pennsylvania; and several nieces, nephews and their children. Also survived by stepson, Cyrus Kit (Masako) Stewart of Montana; stepdaughter, Virginia (Byron) Kohfield of Alaska, and their children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Cy, her parents, and her oldest brother, Clyde.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Honeysuckle Place and the nurses of North Idaho Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate support at the end of Ruth’s life.
