ANNIVERSARIES

John and Eleanor Barrett

70th Anniversary

John and Eleanor Barrett were married on Sept. 12, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. They have lived in, and around, Coeur d’Alene for 70 years of married life where they raised four children and watched their family grow through the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was a self-employed masonry contractor and Ellie worked for many years at Buttrey’s grocery prior to its closing and at the hospital.

The family would like to invite all who know them to help celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary at Creekside Retirement Facility during an open house from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.

Bill and Sharon Carlson

60th Anniversary

Happy 60th anniversary to Bill and Sharon Carlson on Sept 6, 2018. Your love for God and each other has been a picture of grace, tenacity, longevity, faith and good humor.

Your seven children, their children and their children’s children, plus family friends too many to count, benefit from these years and moments of faithful love.

Heinz and Gerrita Schiemann

50th Anniversary

Col. (U.S. Army, Ret.) and Mrs. Heinz A. Schiemann celebrated their Golden Anniversary on Sept. 1, 2018, with a lunch at the Dockside restaurant. As part of their celebration, they will take a European vacation this spring when they will visit friends and relatives in the Netherlands and Germany.

Heinz and Gerrita “Ike” were married on Sept. 2, 1968, in the town hall of Zwolle in the Netherlands. Heinz was serving his first tour as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Field Artillery with a unit in the Netherlands when he met his future wife, Ike. After a year of courtship, they married and began a life in the Army. They raised two children, Martine and Danielle, while being constantly on the move between various posts in the states and overseas assignments to Germany. Family separations were often because of duty assignments. The tour to Vietnam was the hardest, because Heinz was absent for the birth of his first child, Martine. He could not see or hold her until six months into his tour and then only briefly during R&R (Rest and Recuperation) in Hawaii, which lasted but six days when he had to return and finish his tour.

Heinz and Ike retired from Army life after nearly 27 years. Throughout Ike was the stability in their lives. She held the family together and performed the many duties that are expected of an Army wife particularly when Heinz was commander of field artillery batteries and battalions.

After retirement, Heinz took up another calling. He always wanted to be a teacher having previously been a gunnery and tactics instructor at the FT Sill Field Artillery school. He taught science, government and economics to high school students at Project CDA, which he enjoyed immensely. He did this for another 12 years before retiring again.

Future trips that are planned and are recurrent will be to their married daughters and their eight grandchildren — Martine Sallee with husband Joe in Virginia with their four children and Danielle Kloppe with husband Brian in Florida and their four children.

Thomas and Kathleen Nix

50th Anniversary

Thomas and Kathleen (Potter) Nix, of Coeur d’Alene, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Their children are David Douglas Nix of Belfair, Wash., and Andrew Thomas Nix of Alexander, N.C. They have three grandchildren.

They celebrated on Sept. 7, 2018, in Alexander with a wedding and anniversary hosted by Andrew and Renee Nix. Andrew and Renee were married and celebrated 50 years for Tom and Kathy.
