LEWISTON — Jezza Hutto notched a hat trick and also had an assist, leading the Bulldogs past the Bengals in nonleague play at Walker Field.

“We definitely had to battle through some adversity,” said Sandpoint assistant coach Tanner French, whose team outshot the Bengals 27-1. “It’s at a point where players are starting to combine with one another as far as relationships. Everything is positive, keep on moving forward and don’t pick up any more injuries.”

Riley Walkington had a goal and assist, Jordie Breeden a goal for Sandpoint (5-1), which hosts Moscow on Tuesday.

Post Falls 0

POST FALLS — The injury-plagued Trojans yielded five second-half goals in the nonleague loss to the Chiefs at Post Falls High.

According to coach Steve Mills, Post Falls (2-4) has five players out with concussions, two with knee injuries and one with a rib injury.

“We are so thin right now we have to cancel JV matches because we don’t have enough healthy girls to field two teams,” Mills said.

He praised the play of a pair of JV players who started — Kennedy LaFountaine in the midfield, and Ashley Grant on defense.

“Both girls did a great job,” Mills said. “I can’t say enough about how hard those JV girls worked. Not only the two that started, but all of our subs were from the JV squad as well.

“Carly Schacher had to fill in for us in the goal. It has been a long time since her last action as a keeper; she usually plays as a field player but she stepped up for us taking the place of our injured starter. The score just really doesn’t show how well these girls played.”

Post Falls opens 5A Inland Empire League play Tuesday at home vs. Coeur d’Alene.

First half — 1, ML, Natalie Bunch (Claire Hopkins), 1:00. 2, ML, Morgan Skone (unassisted), 33:00. POST FALLS — Sarah Hines scored four goals and Eliason Cherrstrom added a hat trick for the Panthers, who stepped in when the Post Falls junior varsity was unable to field a team against the visiting Chiefs.

“Moses Lake came out strong and knocked us off our passing game a little,” Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “After the first 10 minutes we were able to settle into a groove.”
