Darlene (Dar) Munson, 76

Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene Munson was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Zabrocki officiating. Interment will follow at the Plentywood Memorial Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Darlene (Dar) Munson, 76, passed away Aug. 19, 2018, in Post Falls, Idaho, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Darlene was born to Anthony (Tony) and Cecilia (Hoffarth) Kavon on Sept. 26, 1941. She was the second oldest of five children. She grew up in Plentywood and graduated from high school there in 1959.

Darlene married Rollin (George) Munson of Plentywood on Jan. 9, 1960. They were the parents of four children; Laurie, Mark, Rollie, and Lisa. In addition to being the wife of a farmer, Darlene worked at several local businesses in Plentywood and ended her career as the office administrator at Prairie Pipeline. After her retirement, she relocated to Post Falls, Idaho, in 2007. Darlene was a great supporter of her children’s sporting events and activities. She was a wonderful hostess, loved and took pride in cooking, gardening, and working in her yard. She also loved playing cards, especially smear and cribbage.

She was an active member of the Catholic church in Plentywood and Post Falls. She participated in bowling and pool leagues, St. Teresa’s Guild, the Altar Society, Sheridan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was a member of the Elks and Eagles lodges. Darlene was an avid fan of the Zags and the Seahawks.

Darlene is survived by her children, Laurie (and CJ) Mickes, Mark Munson, Rollie Munson, Lisa (and Tom) Kiley; six grandchildren, Amy, Zachary, Joshua, Matthew, Nicole, and Olivia; two great grandchildren, Gabriel and Riley; and four siblings, Arreen (and Doug) Miller, Joe (and Karla) Kavon, Fred (and Susan) Kavon, and Gene Kavon; an aunt, Eva Brown; two sisters-in-law, Margie (Munson) Madden and Peggy Munson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dear friend, Ed Richard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Cecilia, her husband, George, and two nephews, Doug Niles and Jack Miller, three brothers-in-law, Richard “Richy” Munson, Alton Paulson, Don Madden and one sister-in-law, Beth (Munson) Paulson.
