Margaret ‘Peggy’ Fulton, 88

Margaret Louise (“Peggy”) Fulton, age 88, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene. Peggy was born to Robert G. and Elsie L. (Hopkins) Fulton on June 26, 1930, in Spokane, Wash. She grew up on Spokane’s South Hill near Manito Park, attending the Hutton Grade School and graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1948. She attended Whitworth University for a year and then worked for a mobile X-ray unit in Spokane. From 1951 to 1953 she worked in Spokane as a switchboard operator at Graybar Electric.

In 1953 Peggy joined the U.S. Navy and trained as a meteorological technician, working with weather charts and maps. She was stationed at Jacksonville, Fla., Norfolk, Va., and San Jose, Calif. Peggy was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1957 and continued working for the Weather Bureau in San Francisco and then in Anchorage. In 1975, Peggy returned to the Spokane area and worked for the Forest Service at the Fernan Ranger Station in Coeur d’Alene, where she retired in 1986.

Peggy was part of a large extended family that enjoyed spending time together. Her parents, cousins and friends enjoyed time at a cabin on Hayden Lake. Peggy’s grandparents, James “Tom” and Olive “Oppie” Fulton, had a feed store business in Coeur d’Alene up until 1932. Her uncle, Dick Fulton, was a banker with First Federal Savings and Loan Association in Coeur d’Alene. There were four cousins in that family: Dick, Tom, Mike and Dave. Peggy’s aunt was Dorothy Cope. The Copes owned Cope Electric for many years in Coeur d’Alene. The Fultons and Copes enjoyed family events together, particularly at the lake.

After her retirement Peggy became an active member of the Coeur d’Alene Church of the Nazarene, where she found a spiritual home. She was actively involved with the Prime Time Group at the church, and volunteered for a time as a receptionist. Peggy cared about veterans and volunteered at the library of the Veterans Home in Spokane. She wanted to bring enjoyment to the residents through good books.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jean Fulton Pierce.
