Registration now open for Kids Draw Architecture 2018

| September 4, 2018 1:57 PM

Children ages 10 and older will have an opportunity to draw a historic site as they see it when the Kids Draw Architecture program takes them to Cataldo Mission next month.

Kids Draw Architecture is presented by the Coeur d’Alene Arts and Culture Alliance.

This year’s program will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Human Rights Education Institute, 414 W. Fort Grounds Drive in Coeur d’Alene, followed by a field trip to Cataldo Mission. The program concludes at 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $10 per child and includes transportation, drawing materials, snacks, water and lunch, plus a sling bag, T-shirt, sketch pad and drawing tools to take home.

The kids will check in at HREI and ride on the Coeur d’Alene Casino shuttle buses to the mission. While on the bus, there will be an overview on drawing techniques.

Once at the mission, kids will split into smaller groups to work with area experts, architects and designers to do on-site sketches, with an introduction to architectural drawings, sketches of artifacts, landscapes and, new this year, an introduction into map making.

Originally developed with the assistance of the Architecture Foundation in Santa Barbara, Kids Draw Architecture is an opportunity for aspiring artists and architects to work with local architects and design experts as they sketch local architecture while learning about how our community’s architecture and art represents us as a culture.

The original drawings will be on display at HREI the following Sunday, and the artwork will be scanned and used in a variety of printed pieces, including notecards.

Registration is now open. To register, visit the www.artsandculturecda.org/kids-draw-architecture. Only 50 slots are available so early registration is recommended.

Registration deadline is Sept. 20 or will close when all openings are filled.

Kids Draw Architecture is funded through a grant from the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.
