Sterling Wester Brangham, 79

April 18, 1939 – October 27, 2018

We lost Stern on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, from complications related to a logging accident on his property. He lived by his own rules, lived life until he died, liked to work hard and play hard with no time to waste. Always a social guy, he had plenty of friends and wild adventures throughout his years. Many were almost unbelievable unless you knew him. He may be gone from here but he will live on in our memories, and now he gets to join Kathy, his wife.

Sterling was born on April 18, 1939, in Pocatello, Idaho, to William R. (Bill) Brangham and Evva Lee Kennington Brangham. He was the fifth of 10 children and the second of four sons to join the family. Sterling grew up on a ranch in Toponce, Idaho, where he learned the value of hard work and honesty. There was never a task that he couldn’t handle, although he often tried to avoid the milking!

Sterling married his sweetheart, Kathy Owens, in 1961. One daughter, Sue, blessed this union in 1963. Sterling later learned he had a son, Alan Kay, from a previous relationship. He has six grandsons, Phoenix (with daughter Sue and Wade Duncan), Justin, Jake, Nicholas, Kory and Tyler (from Alan and Brenda Kay).

Sterling was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; his parents; two brothers, William Lee (Bud) and Kurt; two sisters, LaVenna Rae Long and Myrna K. Foster and one grandson, Nicholas Kay.

He is survived by his daughter, Sue Brangham (Wade Duncan); son, Alan (Brenda) Kay; five grandsons; Phoenix (Mikayla) Duncan, Justin Kay, Jake (Teresa) Kay, Kory (Nika) Kay and Tyler (Whitney) Kay. He is also survived by one brother, Lehn (MaryLyn) Brangham; four sisters, Shirley (Warren) Grether, NaVada Winn, Betty Lou (Jerry) Tripp and Barbara (Jim) Griggs. Sterling is also survived by a multitude of friends and extended family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
