PROP 1: Don't be misled

| October 30, 2018 1:00 AM

Some Republican friends are voting “Yes” on Proposition 1. Their ideology is small government and support for private business. I share that belief as well.

However, common sense, public welfare, and ethics dictate a “No” vote on Proposition 1.

The slot machines this allows have nothing to do with horse racing. Promoters claimed it would allow horse racing in Idaho. It is already legal.

These slot machines were tried from 2013 to 2015. These promoters abused use of funds (they cheated). The state stopped them. They proved to be unreliable if not dishonest.

Gambling harms the poor, adds taxes, and harms families.

Government should not interfere with business unless the business is unethical or corrupt. This business failed that test when given three years to operate.

Does ideology support stand for the Mafia, identity thieves, or drug dealers? No, but they are businesses. Of course.

Don’t let ideology result in your vote for corruption.
