ELECTION: Choose English, Miranda

| October 30, 2018 1:00 AM

It does happen. It really does. That is when neighbors and acquaintances sit down together and in a civil manner talk about government and politics. Recently, my husband, Gene, and I with several others hosted a gathering for two candidates: Cory English — Idaho State Senate and Ruben Miranda — County Commissioner. It proved to be meaningful and informative for the politically diverse group of Democrats and Republicans. Folks sat around the table and living room chatting, getting to know one another.

Senate candidate Cory English pulled everyone together and focused on the value of hospitable communities stressing the beauty in diversity in ideas and people and what we share in common with one another. Cory also talked about what she is for like those needed investments to public education, access to quality health care, and security for Idaho families. She believes those investments will put Idaho citizens on a trajectory to be even better.

Kootenai County Commissioner candidate Ruben Miranda emphasized the right to responsive representation. He understands the need for common sense building codes and standards that would ensure safety. He also talked about his 40 years in the software and manufacturing business, which would bring a wealth of experience to the county like collaborating with people on many levels, responsible planning and development, and fiscal planning with budget responsibilities.

The afternoon culminated with information about the citizens’ initiative to expand Medicaid in Idaho — PROPOSITION 2.

Gratitude to these individuals for their openness to listen and better understand the positions of two candidates you can vote for — Cory English and Ruben Miranda, and for a YES to the Proposition 2 Initiative.
