Richard George ‘Dick’ Dahlgren Sr., 88

Richard George ‘Dick” Dahlgren Sr., of Hayden, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2018. He left this world in Charleston, S.C., a city that held a very special place in his heart. He passed away doing what he loved best, traveling.

Dick was born on Oct. 29, 1929, in Chicago, Ill.; the son of Adolf and Mary Dahlgren.

He is predeceased by his wife, Marilyn A. Dahlgren, the love of his life. They met in Denver, Colo. (Estes Park area) where they were married on Feb. 14, 1950. He is also predeceased by his brother, Robert Dahlgren.

Dick was active duty in the United States Navy, proudly serving for four years.

He and Marilyn had four children: daughters, Vickie Sundin (deceased) of Eureka, Calif., and Suzanne Kinchen and Judy Nechanicky of Post Falls, Idaho, and son, Richard George Dahlgren Jr. of Hayden.

He is survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Dick loved being with family; that was most important to him. He also loved traveling; he traveled to so many places around the world, but always with family. He loved boating and being near water. He designed and built his own 40-foot houseboat from the ground up.

He will always be remembered for the love and compassion he shared with family and all those who knew him. His very grand sense of humor, his laughter and his big smile will forever remain in our hearts. He was a charmer and very quick witted. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all.

He had always said, “I have lived in the best of times.”

His celebration of life services will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at the Greenbriar Inn, 315 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene.
